What to eat?

What to eat prior to a workout session? For me this question is for jiu jitsu.

Today I am trying oatmeal, peanut butter, ½ banana, handful of frozen blueberries, and a half scoop of orgain protein powder.

We will see how it goes. I train tonight at 630 pm and I ate at 330 pm today. It’s always hard to figure out the timing of when to eat as well. Some people say they stop eating 4 hours before class. So I’m trying for 3 hours. I’ve tried eating 2 hours before but I still feel slow and feel as if I’m digesting my food. I had a lighter lunch too, probably half a chicken breast on wheat bread with spinach and pimento cheese. The way I’m describing my food, no wonder I feel I’ve become soft lately. At least that’s how I feel.

It’s a tough training room I train with, so I try to figure out the best way I can approach my training. I also have been taking care of a newborn baby too, but I still want to be competitive.

Yesterday, it felt like I took a buttwhooping the whole class. Usually I try to formulate what I want to work on before I go, but I got distracted before I left to go and my jiu jitsu felt blah. It happens sometimes like that.

Tonight I hope to follow more of the game plan of what I want to work on.

Update.

Felt good during training. It wasn’t the hardest training session, a lot of instruction but either way, when it was live rolling I felt fine. They finished the class with a 20 minute submit your partner in under four minutes or move on, and that just goes for 20 minutes. I didn’t get any submissions but I was selfishly working on what I wanted to work on instead and would take up the time with some sweeps I wanted to work or passing, while the opponent is trying to submit me. Although I did get choked with a bow and arrow choke and a weird footlock by two different black belts.

Either way, it was a mellow class and a mellow day overall. My wife and I took it kind of easy around the house today and taking care of a baby can take the energy from you but it’s definitely worth it. It’s great to be a dad.

Looking forward to blogging more. A lot to write about.
